This report provides an overview of pedestrian safety issues and concerns facing the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region. Walking and providing safe and effective pedestrian environments have become more important aspects of the transportation planning process in recent years.
The Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency (GBRPA) and Bridgeport Port Authority (BPA) finalized market and operation plans for a Container Feeder Port Barge Service to link Bridgeport Harbor with the ports of New York and New Jersey, which will provide many benefits for the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region and Connecticut. The service, by shipping containers via barge across Long Island Sound, will reduce trailer truck traffic and related traffic congestion, accidents, and air pollution on I-95. Container barge service will also bring Bridgeport and Region new jobs associated with trucking, warehousing and freight handling. Industries and businesses support by container traffic will be inclined to locate in Bridgeport as it becomes part of the national and worldwide container-based transportation network.
The Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency (GBRPA) published its 5th Regional Profile. The Regional Profile contains frequently requested data on the six municipalities in the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region.
This survey report is to fulfill a task of FY 06 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP). The study results of a twin survey on ferry passengers and train commuters’ opinion regarding the proposed speed ferry service from Bridgeport to Manhattan.
The Plan Summary for the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region was last updated in 2000 and endorsed by the MPO in February, 2001. It covered a twenty-year period from 2000 to 2020. The new Plan extends the horizon year to 2028 and covers a 25-year period from 2004 through 2028.

The Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning Agency, in cooperation with the Greater Bridgeport Transit Authority, completed the development of the regional Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) architecture for the Greater Bridgeport Planning Region. The intent is to help the region to efficiently plan for and implement more effective ITS systems. It is described by a set of outputs and documents, builds upon previous ITS strategic planning and is consistent with the statewide ITS program being implemented by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Transportation Improvement Program (TIP/STIP) for the Greater Bridgeport and Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization
The Greater Bridgeport Planning Region FY 2009 and 2010 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) describes all urban transportation and transportation-related planning activities anticipated in the state fiscal years ending June 30, 2009 and June 30, 2010. It contains a discussion of the major transportation issues, goals and objectives in the Region.
