LAND USE AND REGIONAL REFERRAL REVIEWS
As required by state law, the GBRPA reviews in an advisory capacity all of the plans, projects and regulations that may have an impact on its member municipalities. The agency also reviews projects outside its planning area, such as proposed zoning regulations, land use changes and subdivisions, which may affect its member communities. Its board considers and makes recommendations on all such matters.
In addition, GBRPA member communities as well as adjacent Regions' municipalities must notify the agency regarding various proposed changes in land use, which may include:
- Alterations to zoning maps and regulations affecting land within 500 feet of a municipal boundary
- Subdivisions adjoining or straddling a municipal boundary
- Formation of municipal districts and other agreements between municipalities
- Revisions to the Connecticut Plan of Conservation and Development
- Open space grants
- Foreign trade zones
- Economic development programs
- Municipal development projects
- Hazardous waste facilities and burial of radioactive waste
- Solid waste management plans
- Water supply planning and assessment
- Activities affecting water flow on flood plains
- Electric power and natural gas supply and demand forecasts
- Gas and electric transmission facilities
